We’re back again for some online jewelry lessons and for our Wire Jewelry - Beginner Lessons Series for the first week of January 2012, we’re going to combine what we’ve learned about using eye pins and jump rings and get tips for jewelry making ideas with the use of these two findings.
In our previous online jewelry lessons we’ve learned how to make a loop to create an eye pin and with your eye pins we’ve also learned how to link and make a Blue Moon Bracelet, and learned making drop earrings like the Coin Pearl Drop Earrings that DIY Lessons.org site has compiled. While on another post we’ve talked about jump rings, learned how to handcraft them and the proper way of opening and closing jump rings. The use of these two findings, for me, I would consider it the easiest way to learn how to make wire jewelry. For this particular Wire Jewelry - Beginner Lessons Series we are going to construct jewelries and instead of linking eye pins we will link the eye pins using the jump rings.
To help you recall how to link eye pins, let’s again watch the Blue Moon Bracelet video tutorial
Now, we’ll try and create a bracelet using the looping technique and connecting each set of beads with the jump rings. Some of you might ask, why do we still need to connect or link using the jump rings when you have the option to use only the eye pins. One reason for this, though this way of constructing jewelry is not necessary and generally, it depends on your design or your preferred way to create wire jewelry is that adding a jump ring adds more length and it gives the beads or unit of beads enough space to freely move. With enough space it could freely move on your wrist or neck as you wear them. The same way goes for earring that uses jump rings. It gives enough space especially if it’s dangling earrings.
Let’s try it and follow the steps on how to make a bracelet using eye pins and jump rings from XQDesigns.
If you want to try the technique and create earrings you could make the Chunky Pearl Drop Earrings video tutorial
See how the jump ring already gives added length. The jump ring itself is already an additional design to earring.
Since you can customize the size of your jump ring and they are generally bigger than a loop, you could create multiple or double drop earrings with this tutorial
That’s our Wire Jewelry - Beginner Lesson Series for this week. I hope you learned a lot. You could drop in some comments and share a few more tips and tricks with the uses of eye pins and jump rings. See you again next time for our next online jewelry lessons.
